Leadership Boulder County is designed to develop leaders who are informed, involved and concerned about issues that affect Boulder County. The program provides participants a broad view of civic leadership through direct contact with a variety of institutions and people who shape the community. The objective is to foster an increased awareness of volunteer needs and opportunities in the community with the intent of promoting greater involvement and support with a mission to:
- Focus on topics relevant to Boulder County’s current and future issues
- Expose participants to the highest level of community leaders
- Foster a network of contacts among participants, presenters and alumni
Program Description & Timeline
The 10 sessions are held at theme specific locations, giving participants the opportunity to learn first hand about topics such as community planning, economy, government, criminal justice and media. Prominent community leaders teach sessions through panel discussions, facility tours, speeches and workshops. Participants work in small groups to complete a community project that meets the need of a local non profit.
Each December the program committee selects 35 participants who have demonstrated interest and skills to provide leadership in community service. Leadership Boulder County begins in January continuing through the first week of June, with meetings every other Wednesday. Participants also commit to an additional five hours each month for their group projects.
