Discover Cuba with the Boulder Chamber

Experience of a Lifetime
by, Member Brent Hultman - Taggart Insurance
The Chamber Explorations trip in September gave Boulder Chamber members and people from chambers around the US the rare opportunity to explore Cuba. We spent 9 days experiencing the people and culture of this nation; a country that looks much as it did in 1959 when revolution cut the island off from easy access for US travelers. Out of necessity, transportation on the island ranges from horse drawn carts to vintage autos - which added to the unique feel of the island.
Because the trip was a People to People tour we were encouraged to spend time with Habaneros (Havana residents) and Cubans in the countryside. Tours of a rum factory, a tobacco farm and a visit to Ernest Hemmingway’s house were among the highlights of the trip. Throughout the trip hospitality, art, music, and culture were on display. We enjoyed nights of dancing, a trip on a steam locomotive and evenings on the beach in the Cuban keys. This was an experience that gave us memories for a lifetime and an appreciation for the people and culture of our isolated neighbor.
