By Stephanie A. Milliman10 til 2Starting businesses comes natural for Jersey native Stephanie Sloim who opened her first business fresh out of college. The 10 til 2 greater Boulder business owner says even in an economic slump, business has been good.
“We’re a long term placement agency, placing professionals who have left the workplace but are entering back into it,” she says, and employees work anywhere from four to 30 hours per week. The national staffing company is only five years old, specializing in placing college educated professionals into long-term, part-time positions. There are 18 offices nationwide, seven franchises throughout Colorado with the corporate headquarters located in Aurora, Colorado.
Owning several successful businesses back on the East Coast before moving to Boulder four years ago, Sloim bought the greater Boulder franchise (includes Broomfield, Westminster, Lewisville and Lafayette) in October of 2006. She said she moved to Boulder because her husband once owned a restaurant in Nederland years ago and wanted to leave the rat race of the big city. “There’s so much more to offer here and it’s a great place to raise a family.”
“At 10 til 2 we’re seeing more and more early retirees who want to get back into the game and keep their skills fresh,” she said, and there are a lot of CPAs, administrative assistants and sales candidates who prefer to work part time.
Sloim says since the beginning of the year, the Boulder office has been inundated with phone calls as businesses are recognizing the value staffing services offer by decreasing the bottom-line and maintaining products and services without all the overhead. “10 til 2 makes it easy to employ part-time personnel by taking care of all the administrative and HR paperwork. I can focus on growing my business,” says Mona Moore owner of Mona’s Webs.
A lot of larger staffing companies, she says, do not place home-based positions and a lot of those are part-timers Sloim added. These types of small businesses are exactly where she comes into play. “We work with so many realtors who are passionate about what they do but there’s too much paperwork involved … they can actually use their time more wisely.”
